We Are All Heroes – Stories from a Pandemic

During the first lockdown in March 2020, journalist and photographer Stephanie Darkes helped to mobilise a team of volunteers to connect those who were in need of the help available to them – an experience which left her feeling very much in awe of our Exeter community.

Stephanie felt compelled to creatively document this unprecedented time through words and photography, the result of which is her ‘doorstep photography project’. She invited local people to contribute their lockdown stories, which she shared on her Exploring Exeter social media, on her blogzine (exploringexeter.co.uk), and in Exeter Life magazine.

During this journey, Stephanie has laughed, cried, and been humbled in equal measures, and has recognised that for some just getting through this makes them a hero. She is still taking pictures and gathering stories that will be exhibited in Exeter Library and across the city (dates TBC) and published in a book.
