Are you looking for new ways to engage young learners with creative writing and composition? Quay Words has teamed up with Cornwall-based The Writers’ Block to explore ways that Exeter Custom House can be a catalyst for young people and schools. In addition to our programme of schools visits, we are offering CPD training workshops aimed at both teachers and writers. Participants will be given training in The Writer’s Block method of immersive creative writing workshops, aimed at unlocking children’s creativity and extending that into their writing. The Writers’ Block encourages a joy and playfulness with language, a passion for narrative and a curiosity to seek out stories.
The workshop will be delivered by Wyl Menmuir. He is a Booker longlisted novelist and inspiring teacher. His day session at Exeter Custom House will give participants the opportunity to explore the building and give an insight into how place can be used to encourage creative writing. A chance to delve into your own imagination as well as gathering lots of ideas to use back in the classroom or in your writing practice.
The workshop is aimed at Key Stage Two teachers, who will have the opportunity if they wish to bring pupils on a workshop or visit in the future, although this is not compulsory.
It is also aimed at writers in and around Exeter who are interested in developing writing workshops for school children and, although attendance does not guarantee subsequent work, potentially delivering future workshops at the Custom House.
