We were always here
A constellation of hearts beating
All over the world
In an empty library, under a blanket of watchful stars, four friends come together after suffering a bitter loss – something precious has been taken from them. But the discovery of an old sepia photograph changes everything. A spark is rekindled and an idea blossoms that will shine a whole new light on the small LGBTQIA+ community in their quiet seaside town.
Join Valentine, Luca, Dove and Quill as they each share their own personal experiences of struggle and acceptance, friendship and isolation, despair and irrevocable hope.
A tender and poignant exploration of loneliness and belonging, The Beat of Our Hearts is a unique theatrical celebration of unheard voices and previously untold stories of LGBTQIA+ people, from South West-based playwright Natalie McGrath.
Developed in partnership with the University of Exeter Wellcome Centre and the Intercom Trust, and produced by Exeter Northcott Theatre, with support from the UK Research and Innovation’s Arts and Humanities Research Council and Arts Council England.
This performance will be BSL interpreted.
Accessibility statement: We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience live theatre. We are striving to make our theatre as accessible as possible and recognise that not all disabilities are visible.
If you have any access needs, please get in touch via email on access@exeternorthcott.co.uk, or by phone on 01392 72 63 63 and we’ll gladly assist.
Both entrances to the theatre have ramped access. There are 3 blue badge parking spaces on Queens Drive, at the rear of the theatre, 10 spaces in car park C at the front, and 5 more spaces a little bit further at Northcote House.
The auditorium has 6 wheelchair spaces on row G, which you can easily access by taking the lift to level 3. This is also where the accessible toilet is found. Our wheelchair spaces and a limited number of level access seats are only bookable through our Box Office. This is how we make sure that appropriate seats are available to those who need them.
Certain performances are made more accessible through sign language interpretation, audio description, captioning, or slight adjustments that make for a more relaxed theatre-going experience.
All access performances are highlighted on our what’s on pages with little icons and can be selected by using the filter option.
If you have access needs, you are entitled to a concession and/or a free carer ticket. To allow us to meet your access needs, please contact access@exeternorthcott.co.uk or speak to our Box Office team directly when booking your tickets.
