Beyond the Spectacle – Stories of Indigenous Americans in Devon

Captives, diplomats, activists, interpreters, soldiers, performers, and tourists. Indigenous North Americans have been present in Devon for over four hundred years, yet their stories have often been hidden in our local and national history.

This talk reveals some of the arrivals, the reactions, and the legacies of indigenous Americans in Devon. Based on research conducted as part of Beyond the Spectacle, and the new indigenous Americans in Plymouth trail, expect some surprising stories and new perspectives on four centuries of the transatlantic relationship.

Join Devon History Society for this fascinating online talk by Dr Kate Rennard and Jo Loosemore. Non-members are welcome.
