Brought to you by The Lost Kitchen, independent local bookshop Liznojan Books, and Environment Advisor Paul Cottington.
In conversation with Sophie Pavelle and Claire Ratinon at the beautiful Lost Kitchen. Talking nature, biodiversity, roots and food. The fifth event in our Lost In Conversation series.
Sophie Pavelle is a science communicator, presenter and ambassador for the wildlife trust. In her passionate and thought-provoking book Forget Me Not, she scales the length of Britain, by train, bicycle and kayak, to seek out rare species that could disappear entirely by 2050.
Claire Ratinon is an organic food grower based in east Sussex. Claire appears on Gardener's Question Time, in the Waitrose food magazine and has already published one cookery book. Claire's new book Unearthed is a work of nature writing, storytelling and memoir, and it charts her first year of making a life in the countryside while reflecting on her journey into food growing, the stories of her family and the history of Mauritius. It explores how, in coming back to the earth, she has found a sense of homecoming, defiant ancestry and deep purpose in the company of the roots, leaves and fruit that she grows.
Both these women recognise a deep belonging to our soil, countryside and how import it is for all to access and care for this environment.
You can carry on the evening , and join Sophie, Claire and fellow attendees, for a two-course informal supper at The Lost Kitchen.
Books and refreshements will be available to purchase on the evening, arrivals are welcome from 6.30pm, with talks aiming to start promptly at 7pm, talks lasting for 1hr to 1hr 30, followed by dinner.
