Philip Marsden will be reading from his most recent book The Summer Isles: A Voyage of the Imagination, the account of a single-handed sailing trip up the west coasts of Ireland and Scotland. As well as chronicling the challenges of keeping the boat afloat in tricky waters, Marsden explores wider themes of mythical islands and the more potent fringes of our imaginations. The Summer Isles was described by the Wall Street Journal as ‘one of the most brilliant, imaginative and alluring travel books I’ve read in a long time’.
Philip Marsden is the award-winning author of a number of works of travel, history and fiction, including The Bronski House, The Crossing Place: A Journey among the Armenians and Rising Ground. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and his work has been translated into 15 languages. He lives in Cornwall with his wife, children and a number of boats. When not writing, he spends much of his time tending to a woodland he has planted for biodiversity.
This event will be live-streamed from Exeter Custom House. This event is going to be filmed for live broadcast on Crowdcast.
