The Shorter Proust

  • Exeter Library Castle Street Exeter EX4 3PQ United Kingdom (map)

Jim Putz will talk about the way Proust used his own life and times to provide the background for his major 12 volume novel A La Recherche du Temps Perdu, which Jim has abridged to a single volume, The Shorter Proust, which gives all the main characters, places and themes in Proust's own words (as translated by Scott Moncrieff). This gives a very comprehensive introduction to the whole work and is aimed particularly at those readers who have not been able to find the time or the perseverance to read through the original.
