Unlocking the Cage is a new augmented reality experience, shining a light on the women writers whose work lies in the “cage” beneath Exeter Library. The stories of these women have been brought to life by award-winning novelist Kim Sherwood, the creative audio company dBs Pro, composers John Matthias and Jay Auborn, illustrator Sarita McNeil, and the augmented reality developer Zubr Curio.
“How we remember history determines history. Women did not play a marginal role in our national story; it is the marginal remembrance of women that marginalises us.”
The evening will include:
Live reading from Unlocking the Cage from Kim Sherwood
Live performance of the original score from John Matthias and Declan Daly
Discussion on the creation of the work with writer Kim Sherwood, and composers John Matthias and Jay Auborn
Opportunities to experience Unlocking the Cage and meet the creative team
Redressing the Balance – a talk by curator Becca Gill on creating an interactive archive for women and non-binary voices
Mocktail bar from Bar Nova
Cost: Free
