Devon Storytellers

Artemis Storytelling

Established in Devon by Katy Cawkwell, Artemis Storytelling brings storytelling performance and workshops to the region.

Regular workshops are run by Katy Cawkwell, drawing on her 25 years experience of performance storytelling and helping others develop their own style and skills.  Occasionally we have a guest tutor, as when the wonderful Nell Phoenix came to run the Archetypes in Storytelling workshop, as part of Quay Words.

Once or twice a year, we organise a "Story Blaze" event: a joyful, creative evening, an opportunity for Katy's workshop participants to share their stories in a public performance.

Beyond Face

Founded in 2015 by Theatre Practitioner Alix Harris who, after working in Plymouth and running a series of consultation workshops, recognised the need for a company such as Beyond Face to exist in Plymouth & Devon, Beyond Face CIC is a performance company whose mission is to raise the profile and visibility of Black, Asian and ethnically diverse artist, young people and communities.

Beyond Face engages with professionals, young people and communities in a variety of outlets, to create and tour high quality professional performances, as well as delivering workshops, training and support for developing artists, young people, businesses and educational institutions.

Katy Cawkwell

Katy has been working as a professional storyteller since 1996 in venues across the UK and beyond.

Since moving to Devon, she has set up Artemis Storytelling to bring the very best of performance storytelling to the Exeter area.  Katy also runs regular workshops to help local storytellers develop their performance skills, supported in 2021, by an Exeter City of Literature Compact Commission.

The Old Wyvern

The Old Wyvern runs two regular walking tours of Exeter — Ales & Tales and Drewers & Brewers — and can be found regularly regaling crowds with strange tales and madcap myth at The Ship Inn.

He also offers bespoke performances to entertain and educate!

Preston Street Films

Preston Street Films are a video and animation company based in Exeter who specialise in bringing documentary storytelling into the research sphere.

Film is a powerful communication tool which can convey research projects in ways that articles and presentations cannot; in partnering with researchers, Preston Street Films creates opportunities for practitioners to better represent their work and its significance to a wider audience.

Patrice Naiambana

African Performing Artist, Animateur, Story-maker. Alongside extensive experience in UK and International mainstream, and educational spaces as a professional actor and facilitator, Patrice runs The Decolonial Salon. The Decolonial Salon is a interdisciplinary lab space where Citizens and Exile Heritage Artists gather to explore and experiment with Diaspora Consciousness Stories. It is a space for innovative story-making - short pieces of work (which may go on to have a future life) and for healing through stories.
