Sabah Choudrey - Supporting Trans People of Colour - Book Tour

  • Bookbag 7-10 McCoys Arcade, Fore Street, Exeter, EX4 3AN (map)

The Exeter Decolonising NetworkTrans and Nonbinary Cafe, and Rethinking Sexology are thrilled to join forces with local independent book shop Bookbag to celebrate the launch of author, speaker and activist Sabah Choudrey’s new book  'Supporting Trans People of Colour: How to Make Your Practice Inclusive'.

The evening will include excerpts, a Q+A with Sabah about their book and work, and of course, the chance to buy the book (if you haven't already) and get your copy signed by Sabah; all in the cheerful and cosy atmosphere of Bookbag’s outside space.

For those who cannot make it in person, the event will also be live-streamed by Bookbag. They will provide the link nearer the time!

Cost: Free

Event Etiquette Online & In-Person: We would ask in-person attendees to observe Covid precautions. Please keep masks on while inside or while walking around near others you are not in a household/bubble with. In outside spaces, current Covid restrictions do not make masks mandatory, but please feel free to wear it throughout the evening if you desire. Should restrictions change, please follow the most up to date Covid guidance.

Please also be respectful of maintaining a reasonable distance from others, and be mindful that people have differing needs in terms of their distance and mask use etc. Please also remember that some people are exempt from wearing a mask.

If possible, please do take a test before you come, and do not attend in person if you test positive, or if you have other symptoms of illness. You will not be required to show a negative test to attend, but we are grateful for your conscientiousness at this time.

Whether you are attending online or in person, we will not tolerate discriminatory behaviour of any kind, directed at our guests or anyone else. Discriminatory behaviour of any kind will result in perpetrators being removed from the event, and follow up disciplinary action may be taken. Inappropriate behaviour will result in being ejected from the event (in person), and/or being blocked by Bookbag's YouTube channel.

Should restrictions, or the circumstances of our speaker change so much that the event cannot go ahead, we will let you know.

Accessibility statement: McCoys Arcade is located on Fore Street, Exeter, which is a hill with a fairly steep gradient. Parking on Fore Street itself is limited, there is a small car park at the bottom of nearby West Street and larger car parks in Bartholomew Terrace and Smythen Street. The Arcade itself has level floors and there is only a small lip into the doorway at Bookbag. In the shop itself, we make every effort to ensure enough space for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and are always happy to move furniture. For this event outside in the arcade it is likely to be cold, and while we will provide some blankets we do advise wrapping up warm.

The live-stream will have autogenerated captions. These cannot be edited live, so may be inaccurate / incomplete.

If you have any additional access requirements or concerns, please get in touch at: transcafe@exeter.ac.uk and we will do our best to answer any questions and accommodate them.
